Intro to Photography
Manual Control in an Automatic World

August 2nd to 6th, 2021 (ages 10 to 14)

When we pick up a camera it is to create art, not to be overwhelmed by the science and engineering behind the machine. This 5 day course is designed to demystify the seemingly complicated world of film and digital photography to get students shooting and creating.

Action packed with photography scavenger hunts, interactive group projects, and photo sessions students will learn by doing to lay the foundation needed to pursue their interest in photography in a fun, engaging, and meaningful way. By the end of the week, students will have walked through the creative process of capture to print, leading to the painted photograph art project on our final day - using our edited and printed photograph in a mixed media piece of take-home art.

A digital camera with manual controls is a requirement of this course. Students will be provided with a 35mm film camera if they do not have access to one, and one roll of black and white film is provided in the registration fee.
